After a perilous sea crossing and a harrowing stay in a refugee camp in Malaysia, young Vietnamese Tinh and her family arrive in Quebec, where they begin their new life. Thanks to a warm welcome from everyone, including the family who sponsors them, Tinh slowly adapts to her new reality. She overcomes her shyness to learn a new language, discover a new culture and adapt to a new life in Quebec. "At the dawn of the holiday season, RU, which means "to cradle" in Vietnamese, lands on the cultural landscape like a long, comforting embrace." (Léa Harvey, Le Soleil)
