Manawan, 1977. A vehicle falls into a river near a Native community. Two white Quebecers escape, but five Atikamekw lose their lives. While the police conclude that it was an accident, the victims' families have unanswered questions. "An indispensable work, the film evolves as much on the terrain of political position-taking as on that of intimate social drama." (Charles-Henri Ramond, Ciné-Bulles)

The film will be followed by a discussion with Algonquin activist Jennifer Brazeau.

ABOUT JENNIFER BRAZEAU
Jennifer Brazeau is an Algonquin woman, mother of two and grandmother of one. She is a member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community.

Ms. Brazeau is Executive Director of the Centre d'amitié autochtone de Lanaudière (CAAL), which works with, among others, the Atikamek. Under her leadership, CAAL has inaugurated the very first mobile health clinic by and for Aboriginals. This initiative, the only one of its kind in Quebec, addresses the health, intervention and education issues facing the Lanaudière aboriginal community.

She was also instrumental in setting up a joint police and community intervention team with the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de Lanaudière and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), to respond appropriately to the specific needs of vulnerable clienteles, both non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal.

She sits as the Quebec provincial representative on the National Association of Native Friendship Centres and is a director on the board of the Musée d'art de Joliette. She also worked for Quebec Native Women for nearly 10 years.
