Consisting of original compositions for piano, some of which are arranged for strings, English horn, and wordless vocals, this new opus by Catherine Major forsakes the words that usually fuel her songs, to offer an entirely instrumental album, thus revealing a new facet of her musical sensitivity. "For the first time, I decide to silence the voice and the words to return to this foundation: the instrument," confides Catherine Major. "The music that results is imbued with my memory and my memories: they are inherently linked to my body."

While the mind often cleans house in our memories, the body retains everything. The places, the people, the smells, the bursts of laughter, as well as the holes in the heart. A large space in the family home is dedicated to music, and it is in this studio at Maison Foster that Catherine decided to let the memory of the body dictate these 15 new instrumental pieces. It is with the forest, the mountains, the scent of herbs that grow year-round in the greenhouse, the sound of the wind, the creaking of the floor, birds, and children that she summarized with her piano the significant moments of the first 40 years of her life. With this album, Catherine Major dives back into these pure and naked emotions, without artifice, without cover, and with a lot of excitement and humility.

As a singer-songwriter, Catherine Major has graced stages in venues and festivals all over Quebec and abroad. The artist has delivered five albums of her original repertoire to date, and she is also the composer and orchestrator of the opera "Albertine en cinq temps" (2022). Well-known for her fusion with her instrument, the piano, as well as for the intensity with which she delivers her art, Catherine Major has garnered numerous awards over the years, including the prestigious Coup de coeur de l'Académie Charles Cros, the Félix-Leclerc Prize, and a Jutra Award for Best Film Music. She is often called upon, as a composer, musician, or performer, to collaborate on various collective projects, from pop to classical. Over the course of projects, shows, and time, Catherine Major has had the pleasure of performing with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductors Adam Johnson, Kent Nagano, and Simon Leclerc; the Quebec Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Fabien Gabel; and the Francophone Orchestra under the direction of Jean-Philippe Tremblay.

She also writes songs for her peers, notably for Diane Dufresne, and is entrusted with composing several film scores, documentaries, and musical direction for projects. "La mémoire du corps" is her sixth original album.
