At the beginning of his seven-year term, François Mitterrand (Michel Fau) sets out to establish himself as a great builder, launching a series of ambitious projects. To everyone's surprise, Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen (Claes Bang) wins the competition to redesign La Défense. Stéphane Demoustier takes us back to 1983, amid the whirlwind of Mitterrand's early years in office. Above all, the film tells the story of a man caught up in forces larger than himself, unwilling to compromise his artistic vision while discovering the complexities of French diplomacy. Xavier Dolan as a presidential adviser and Swann Arlaud as the architect of Charles de Gaulle Airport are as unexpected in their roles as they are brilliant in their performances.
