This recital for voice and piano features works from the 18th and 19th-century repertoire, including pieces by Mahler, Schubert, and Schumann, as well as older songs by Randolph, Phillip, and Greene, concluding with some compositions from the 20th century.

Jingjing Xu, mezzo-soprano :
Praised as "One to Watch," Jingjing Xu is a mezzo-soprano from China with a diverse and multi-facetted repertoire. After graduating from McGill University with her master's degree in 2023, she won the 2024 edition of the prestigious Mirjam Helin Competition as its youngest participant. She also won McGill's premier singing competition, the Wirth Vocal Prize, in 2022, the largest voice prize offered by a Canadian university.

The 2023-24 season also saw her professional debuts in oratorio and recital performance, as she performed for the Organ and Aria Festival in Espoo, Finland, The Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, and Montreal's Société d'Art Vocale. Jingjing made her opera debut in 2022, singing the title role of Orlando with Opera McGill. She also sings the roles of Angelina in Rossini's Cenerentola and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro.

Jingjing is noted for her skill at portraying poetry vividly and precisely to her audience. She and her duo partner, Christopher Knopp, participated in the 2023 edition of the Franz Schubert Institut and worked closely with Elly Ameling, Robert Holl and Roger Vignoles.

Jingjing's primary mentor is Contralto Annamaria Popescu, and she also works closely with Michael McMahon and Esther Gonthier. She has worked in masterclasses with Graham Johnson, James Vaughan, Jeff Cohen, Pierre Vallet, Helmut Deutsch and Francois Le Roux.

Christopher Knopp, piano:
Praised as an engaging pianist with a sensitive touch and professional technique, Christopher Knopp has earned the reputation of an exceptional collaborative pianist. As a member of the first edition of Montreal's Résidence en accompagnement vocale de l'Université de Montréal et de McGill, he had the chance to study with the most prominent pianists in the world of vocal music; Graham Johnson, James Vaughan, Jeff Cohen and John Churchwell.

After his residency, Christopher worked as a vocal coach and accompanist at McGill University, while also performing in recitals and playing for audition, competitions and other concerts in Montreal, New York and Vancouver. He and his duo partner, Jingjing Xu, have successfully performed for both the Neue Stimmen and Mirjam Helin Competitions, and performed recitals in Montreal, Vancouver, Vienna and Helsinki. Christopher will begin working as a member of the Academy of the Teatro del Maggio in Florence in November of 2024.
